Only by items, which do not require an after blessing in their places - אלא בדברים שאין טעונין ברכה לאחריהם במקומן

According to the רשב"ם the דברים הטעונין ב"א במקומן includes anything for which a מעין שלש is recited (and bread), while according to תוספות it only includes bread and מזונות.
When they leave, a blessing for the past, is required - כשהן יוצאין טעונין ברכה למפרע כולי

Even according to those who maintain שינוי מקום צריך לברך, it means a new ברכה ראשונה, but no ברכה אחרונה on his return. A ב"א may be required if he knows he will tarry. However, להלכה even a ברכה ראשונה is not required when leaving from (and returning to) a meal which is טעון ב"א במקומן.
