We cannot derive that שכינה במערב from the ביהמ"ק, since we can argue that it was an arbitrary decision where to place the ארון; alternately the ארון was not placed completely to the west of the קדה"ק.

If שכינה במערב it is understood why east is called קדם (for that is where the שכינה faces) and therefore מערב is אחור and north and south are left and right respectively. Even if שכינה בכל מקום nevertheless since in the ביהמ"ק the שכינה was במערב, it faced east towards the בנ"י who would bow towards the שכינה.
