שלשים וששה אלף – Thirty-six thousand

Summary: The ברייתא understands that there were thirty-six thousand חלוצי כתף by the לויה of חזקיה since the גמטריא of the word לו is thirty six.

תוס' ד"ה והלא

והלא לפני אחאב עשו כן – For did they not do that for אחאב as well

Summary: אחאב had a great funeral since he was killed during a battle. His friends mourned his passing, while the righteous rejoiced.

תוס' ד"ה אלא

אלא שהניחו ספר תורה על מטתו – Rather, they placed a ספר תורה on his bed

Summary: Even if one maintains that it is prohibited from sitting on the same bed where a ס"ת is lying, nevertheless it was permitted to place a ס"ת on the מטה of חזקיה since he was a גדול בתורה ובמע"ט ביותר.

תוס' ד"ה והאמר

והאמר מר גדול למוד תורה שמביא לידי מעשה – But the master stated, study of תורה is great for it causes action

Summary: רש"י maintains that מעשה is greater than למוד. The ר"ת maintains that (למוד is greater; however) למוד is included in מעשה. The שאלתות maintains that למוד לעצמו is greater than מעשה, and מעשה is greater than לימד לאחרים.
